Our round-up of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours - featuring news from Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and more...

It’s time for Thursday’s rundown of the biggest and boldest transfer rumours circulating around the Premier League over the past 24 hours – and today, we’re going to start off with a story that might well excite fans of Manchester United.

Since Ruben Amorim took the reins at Old Trafford, they’ve been linked with just about every player the Portuguese coach was in charge of back at Sporting, but one player that’s cropping up more and more is Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand – and TeamTalk cite sources from across the continent in claiming that United are “definitely planning a move.”

Apparently, Amorim doesn’t believe that Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are up to the task in midfield and is prioritising reinforcements there – and he “loves” Hjulmand, a combative central midfielder who played that role for him at Sporting. The 25-year-old has an €80m (£66.3m) release clause in his contract.

The 3AM Verdict: There’s little to no chance that United pay Hjulmand’s full release clause, so that’s something of a red herring, but we don’t doubt that he’ll be on the shortlist for the midfield role. He suits Amorim’s style down to the ground, and we think the stories connecting him with a move to United are rather more plausible than those concerning the wildly expensive Viktor Gyökeres.

Seven sides in for Spanish star

News from Spain now – Fichajes claim that no fewer than seven teams are battling for the signature of one of the stars of Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 campaign, Nico Williams, and that includes no fewer than four from the Premier League.

Manchester United crop up again, this time alongside Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur on the list of prospective suitors for the flying Athletic winger, who is moving into the last 18 months of his contract. A €58m (£48m) release clause means that a move seems almost certain. Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are the continental giants also considering a bid.

The 3AM Verdict: We’ve seenManchester City’s name in the hat before, as well, and all we know for now is that Nico Williams will be at the centre of one of next summer’s biggest transfer stories. We’re doubting Manchester United are serious about a bid as he doesn’t really fit Amorim’s system that well, and Spurs would surely need to secure Champions League football to stand a chance. Someone will win the lottery, though…

Palace’s ‘second chance’ at Sporting star

Finally, a rumour about a Sporting player who isn’t being connected with a move to Manchester United – it’s actually Crystal Palace who are keen on one of Amorim’s old boys this time, and the player in question is nimble supporting forward Marcus Edwards, at least if Sport Witness (via A Bola) have their facts right.

Palace were loosely connected with him over the summer but nothing came of it, but with Sporting struggling to tie the 26-year-old down to a new deal, it looks like they’re going to get a “second chance” with the Portuguese club considering transfer listing him. The Spurs academy product’s contract runs down in 2026.

The 3AM Verdict: Edwards would seem to be a sound replacement for Eberechi Eze should he leave next summer, although there may well be some chance that he moves in January if it becomes clear a new contract isn’t going to get signed. Not a world class signing, perhaps, but still one that could inject some pace and dynamism into Palace’s attack.
