Both Gary O’Neil and Julen Lopetegui are under pressure at Wolves and West Ham, respectively
Wolves manager Gary O’Neil insisted he was happy to take criticism from his own supporters head on after his team lost 4-0 to Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
Chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning” echoed from the away section as the pressure was cranked up on O’Neil ahead of Monday’s meeting with West Ham. If O’Neil is still in position at Wolves at the London Stadium, it could represent a huge game for both managers. Irons boss Julen Lopetegui is under increasing pressure at the Hammers after a 3-1 loss at Leicester City on Tuesday night.
A number of angry and hostile chants were directed towards O’Neil on Wednesday, as they were left sitting in the bottom three, with Everton moving to within a point of West Ham
O’Neil said: "Whatever the fans think of me, there is definitely nobody working harder than me and I will continue to do so until someone tells me not to. I go over there to see them because I appreciate every one of the Wolves fans. They have given me unbelievable support since I arrived at the football club. We managed to produce some unbelievable stuff last season – away at Chelsea, Tottenham and West Brom - with a team that was heavily tipped by most of the nation for relegation, but we were nowhere near it, ever.
"Now it is tough. I was happy to go over there and look them right in the face and take any criticism they want to throw at me. I accept responsibility for my part in that. Whatever criticism they want to throw at me will not change how I feel about them. Everyone at this football club needs to do more. We will get back to be ready to fight again on Monday [against West Ham]. I will work with everything I have. I will back myself to get the most out of the group. I understand the drive for change [but] you never know how much of a percentage of supporters it is."
