Even at 36 years of age, the FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is having one of the best starts to a season in his entire career as he has already scored 22 goals in 20 matches up to now.
However, his advanced age is still a problem, as the Blaugranes understand that he is bound to slow down sooner or later, and he has not many years left to play at the top level.
In such a scenario, the Catalans are reportedly looking for a long-term replacement for their striker, and have been linked with several names, including Jonathan David and Viktor Gyokeres.
Now, Fichajes reports that another name that Barcelona are considering for this purpose is the Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen, who, at 25 years of age, can be a solution to their striker problem both for the short and the long term.
Malen has attracted Barcelona’s interest with his goalscoring ability and his versatility across the forward line. He has scored four goals and provided one assist this season, and is a key player both for Borussia Dortmund and his Dutch national team.

Furthermore, he is not expected to be too expensive, as Borussia Dortmund are willing to let him leave for €20 million. While he has also been linked with other clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Barcelona appears to be a more attractive option for him, particularly because of the prospect of playing under Hansi Flick in an exciting and dynamic team.
Barcelona are not expected to bring in the Dutchman in January, and the summer of 2025 could be the time when Malen joins a new club. Although not the most exciting, this is certainly a good option for the Blaugranes to get an affordable replacement for Lewandowski, who can remain a part of the team for several years to come.
