Kevin De Bruyne would have been delighted after Manchester City’s 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest for a multitude of reasons.
Firstly, De Bruyne would have been happy to have played for a majority of the contest without getting injured.
On top of that, the Manchester City virtuoso would have been over the moon to have assisted Bernardo Silva’s goal and scored one of his own against Nottingham Forest.
As Jen Beattie heaped praise on De Bruyne and felt he was given a “deserved standing ovation”, he too would have been touched by how the home support reacted to his performance.
All in all, the Etihad Stadium was witness to the hosts playing beautiful football in a comfortable victory, which has not been the case in recent weeks.

Pep Guardiola’s men have been missing De Bruyne’s genius in the middle of the park and his incredible display highlighted how important he remains to this City side.

Kevin De Bruyne plays down Liverpool drawing to Newcastle
Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Newcastle United came as a huge surprise.
Despite Mohamed Salah’s second goal putting Arne Slot’s side in the lead as late as in the 83rd minute, Fabian Schar’s late equaliser meant they dropped points a few days after beating City.
However, De Bruyne played down the significance of Liverpool’s blip against Newcastle after Manchester City’s latest victory against Nottingham Forest.
The Belgian told Amazon Prime Video Sport: “To be honest, it’s not the moment to look at that. It’s been a hard period… The Premier League is getting harder and harder, and everybody is taking points off everybody…we’ll see in a couple of months.”
De Bruyne has won six Premier League titles and as a result, he needs no reminding of how to stay composed throughout the course of a season when fighting for domestic glory.
Gary Neville’s opinion about Liverpool in the title race after their recent win against Manchester City was that they are far likelier to go on and get over the line over the current champions of England.
Jamie Carragher ruled Manchester City out of the title fight as well and stated that their focus is on qualifying for the top four this season.
De Bruyne will be focused on Man City and not Liverpool
Ultimately, De Bruyne’s primary focus will be on helping City return to their best rather than Liverpool’s results.
Regardless of how either the Reds or even Arsenal fare, unless Manchester City pick up results on their own end, their title rivals’ fixtures will be inconsequential.
However, Liverpool’s latest draw means the gap between themselves and the Sky Blues has been reduced from 11 to nine points.
But the gap between both sides is still quite significant.
De Bruyne will be hoping Manchester City can pile the pressure on to both Liverpool and Arsenal by beating Crystal Palace on Saturday.
