Bundesliga team accelerates efforts to extend Real Madrid target’s contract – report

Real Madrid, under the leadership of Florentino Perez, continue to drive the ambitious Super League project.

Despite facing initial setbacks, the project is far from dead, with significant progress being made behind the scenes, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The report has revealed further details about the Super League project and how it is evolving, with the organisers already contacted 100 clubs across Europe.

Key details about ESL

One of the key developments in the Super League’s evolution is the increased emphasis on meritocracy.

The initial proposal included a fixed number of elite clubs, but the organizers are now considering a system where top-performing clubs from major leagues, like Lille or Bayer Leverkusen, could qualify for the top tier.

Besides this, the league will likely have 16 openings across the top five leagues – a move aimed at accomodating as much as star essence as possible.

The Super League also envisions a global platform that will cater to a massive audience. A dedicated application, “Unify,” is being developed to facilitate worldwide access to matches.

When will ESL start?

The project has received substantial legal backing, with favorable rulings from both Spanish and European courts.

This has strengthened the position of Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two driving forces behind the initiative.

Moreover, numerous clubs across Europe have expressed interest in participating, with over 60 out of 100 clubs already signaling their willingness to join.

While the Super League faces challenges, such as negotiating broadcast rights and finalizing the competition format, the organizers remain optimistic.

The target launch dates are September 2025 or September 2026.
