Arne Slot speaks with Mo Salah
Arne Slot says he is “expecting” Mohamed Salah to stay at Anfield “for a long time” after the Egyptian produced a sensational performance at St James’ Park.
Salah scored two second half goals and provided an assist for Curtis Jones before Fabian Schar earned Newcastle a deserved point with a late equaliser in a sensational contest. And after Eddie Howe’s side had twice led - thanks to goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon - Slot was grateful for Salah’s brilliance.
The Liverpool manager said: “Every time we need Mo Salah, he scores a goal. We are hoping and expecting he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us.
“He is a special player. For one half, you think he might not be having his best game but then he produces goals, an assist and hits the bar. Very few players can do that.

“It is difficult for me to predict the future but but the only thing I can predict is that he is in a very good place and in a very good team that provides him with opportunities.”
Liverpool’s draw means their lead at the top of the table has been trimmed to seven points but after twice going behind, Slot was not too disappointed, despite conceding a 90th minute leveller.
He said: “I have mixed feelings, we were outstanding in the second half but we were not good enough in the first half. Maybe 3-3 is what the game deserved.”
And Howe tended to agree, the Newcastle boss saying: “There are mixed emotions. Part of me feels we should have won, part of me is pleased we didn’t lose.
“But that was more like us. I was very pleased with the performance. There was a much better feel about the team. And it was Alexander Isak’s best performance of the season.”
