Noni Madueke has shared what Enzo Maresca has been doing to help his game following Chelsea’s win against Southampton.

The Blues thrashed the Saints 5-1 at St Mary’s on Wednesday night to move above Arsenal on goal difference into second place and close the gap on leaders Liverpool to seven points.

Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Madueke, Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho all scored to take Chelsea’s tally to 31 goals in 14 games.

Madueke on how Maresca has been helping him

Maresca hit the rotation button on the south coast as he made seven changes to the team that beat Aston Villa on the weekend.

It meant a return to the side for Madueke after being dropped on the weekend, the first time he hadn’t started a league game since the opening day.

The England international impressed as he got back amongst the goals and provided an assist, although after the game Maresca stated he wasn’t happy with how the winger had been training.

Madueke’s strike was his fifth of the season in the league and he’s certainly developed a lot so far under Maresca and has been one of Chelsea’s best performers this campaign.

Speaking after the game against Southampton Madueke shared how Maresca has helped him as a player and what he’s given him.

“Me personally, just trust, a lot of faith in me, playing me pretty much all of the games,” he told Prime Video.

“He’s just helping me with my game, with my goalscoring, all aspects of trying to become a top wide player, so all credit to him and my teammates as well and all of us. It was a great win today and we’re going for more.”

Stamford Bridge interior, generic.

Madueke is certainly becoming a more rounded player, but his decision making in the final third still needs improvement and he arguably could have had a hat-trick against the Saints having missed a number of good chances.

The winger will be hoping to retain his place in the side for Sunday’s game away at Tottenham, but if that’s going to happen he will need to up his levels in training to impress Maresca once again.
