Ever the optimist, Roy Keane was left incensed with how Manchester United fared during last night’s clash with Arsenal.
The club legend joined Stick to Football co-stars Gary Neville, Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher for a watch-along of the match, with the latter sporting a Red Devils shirt in hopes of Arsenal dropping points in the title race.
That would turn out not to be the case, however, as two perfectly executed corner kicks saw the Gunners find the back of the net twice in the second half courtesy of Jurrien Timber and William Saliba’s backside. Bar a flurry of attacks in the closing stages, Arsenal offered very little in the final third from open play.
Nonetheless, they’d secured all three points by the time Sam Barrott blew his whistle to signal full-time, closing the gap with Liverpool, who drew 3-3 away to Newcastle United, to seven points.

For the second goal of the night, Ruben Amorim was said to be ‘furious’ with Marcus Rashford due to the forward needlessly conceded the corner after failing in his attempt to flick the ball over Martin Odegaard. It was then a matter of moments before Bukayo’s Saka’s in-swinger nestled into the net, and Saliba reeled off to celebrate with the Emirates faithful, all but confirming there was no way back for the visitors.
Reacting to his showing on The Overlap, Keane said of Rashford: “I’ll tell you something, Marcus Rashford came on there. His general play as a footballer is shocking. Watch his header there.”
He added: “Have United’s subs given anything since coming on? Nothing. The subs have done nothing. Manchester United deserve nothing anyway. They were rubbish. You know what happens with United? They fool you, they fool you. They’re not dynamic.”
Fans may argue with such a sentiment, though, given that two of Amorim’s five substitutions, Amad Diallo and Leny Yoro, were bright sparks for the time they were on the pitch. The latter, in particular, recorded some pretty impressive statistics in what marked his maiden outing for United.
