The latest Liverpool injury update ahead of their Merseyside derby clash with Everton
Liverpool saw their impressive lead at the top of the Premier League pegged back from nine points to seven on Wednesday night. The Reds drew 3-3 with Newcastle United in a thriller at St. James’ Park, which saw Arne Slot’s side come back from a goal down on two occasions and then take the lead, only for Fabian Schar to draw the Magpies level in stoppage time.
Meanwhile, the chasing pack of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all registered victories, with the latter club ending a gruelling run of seven matches without a victory in all competitions.
Next up for Liverpool is the eagerly anticipated Merseyside derby at Goodison Park - a game that could prove pivotal in both the title race and the relegation battle. The Toffees will head into the game buoyed by an impressive 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but will be mindful of the fact they’ve only beaten the Reds at once at home since 2010.
However, that victory came only last season, and will be fresh in the memory of Sean Dyche and his players as they look to extend the five point gap that currently keeps them out of the relegation zone.
Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s blockbuster fixture, we’ve rounded up the latest Liverpool injury news, as Slot’s side look to return to winning ways at the first time of asking:
Allison
Caoimhin Kelleher has well and truly put himself in the shop window ahead of January during his lengthy spell covering for the injured Alisson, but he’ll be ruing the goalkeeping howler that saw his side drop points late on against the Magpies.
Alisson certainly won’t be rushed back into action, with Slot making it clear that he backs a fully fit Kelleher over the Brazil international when at half capacity. The Reds manager has offered “Before the end of December” as a guarded estimation of when the Brazil international will be back between the sticks - here’s hoping that glorious moustache makes a comeback with him. Expected return date: 14th December vs Fulham.
Ibrahima Konate
Liverpool boast the best defensive record in the Premier League so far this season, conceding just eleven goals in fourteen matches. However, they’ve showing signs of becoming leaky on the road, conceding two away to Southampton and three at Newcastle in their last two Premier League matches away from home.
Konate is currently nursing a knee injury, and Slot has revealed that the France international will be out for “a few weeks”. Those wishing to be optimistic would hope to see the 25-year-old back in action before Christmas, but that may well not be the case. Expected return date: 26th December vs Leicester City.
Conor Bradley
Barring any setbacks, he’ll hopefully be back in action before the end of the year. Expected return date: 26th December vs Leicester City.
Konstantinos Tsimikas
You’d imagine star left full-back Andy Robertson would welcome a breather in the near future. His understudy is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, and Slot has made it clear that he won’t be involved this week. Expected return date: 14th December vs Fulham.
Diogo Jota
Liverpool have been without the ex-Wolves star since early October, after he suffered a rib injury in his side’s 2-1 over Chelsea. With the fixtures coming thick and fast, having the likes of Jota back in action will be integral to the Reds’ title challenge.
He wasn’t fit enough to make the bench for Wednesday evening’s draw at Newcastle, but there’s an outside shot he could play some part in his side’s match against Dyche’s Everton this weekend. Expected return date: 10th December vs Girona.

Federico Chiesa
Many rushed to brand Liverpool’s £10m capture of Chiesa the bargain of last summer’s transfer window, but the Reds knew they were taking a gamble when they plucked the Italy international from Juventus. Thus far, the notoriously injury-prone winger has been restricted to just three appearances for Slot’s side.
However, the ex-Fiorentina star is said to be making some encouraging progress behind the scenes, starting for Liverpool’s U21 side against FC Nordsjaelland and getting on the score sheet. He’s being carefully ushered back into the fold, building up his match fitness with hopes of a return to first team action in the near future. Possible return date: 7th December vs. Everton.
