Aston Villa can breathe a sigh of relief.
Yes, there is still a long way to go, but Aston Villa’s 3-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday night was much-needed given the troubles of recent weeks.
Villa were winless in eight matches – and deservedly so – the pressure was mounting on the players to produce and the team was sliding down the table.
At one point, Unai Emery found his side sitting in the bottom half, but in next to no time, they have shot up the table and are now sitting in seventh – a European place.
All of that is thanks to an outstanding attacking display against a free-scoring Brentford side that only had one shot on target at Villa Park – their goal – and conceded ten shots on target the other way.
Morgan Rogers opened the scoring with a brilliant finish on the edge of the box, before Ollie Watkins converted from the spot and Matty Cash made it three before the break with a brilliant first-time volley.
Martin Keown compares Morgan Rogers to Dennis Bergkamp
Rogers has made huge strides at Villa, but the hype around him needs to slow down a little.
It wasn’t so long ago Rogers was told he could be a £100 million player, then he went through a lean spell and he was being questioned.
Yet, fast forward to the present, and Martin Keown is comparing the Englishman to his former Arsenal teammate, Dennis Bergkamp, as he told Match of the Day.

Keown highlighted how Rogers has been in ‘quite magnificent form’ for his club and that his style is similar to the one-touch legendary Dutchman.
“Morgan Rogers has been in quite magnificent form,” said Keown. “He just keeps producing. He likes to play off the front. He comes deep. A sort of Bergkamp style. That he starts high and then comes deep.”

Rogers’ stats after Villa beat Brentford
Rogers’ starting place was being questioned heading into this match, but Emery stuck by the player and he produced.
One noticeable thing was that, as soon as Rogers scored, his body language changed and he had an extra zip to his game.
It proves what confidence can do to a man, with WhoScored rating his performance against Brentford at 8.07.
