Cyclist rushed to hospital with serious injuries after crash with car outside Smethwick pub

A cyclist was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a car outside a pub. The crash happened near The Shireland Bar & Grill in Portland Road, Smethwick, at around 6.50pm yesterday, Wednesday, December 4.

Paramedics treated the cyclist, a man, for serious injuries at the scene. He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

Nearby Shireland Road, which joins on to Portland Road, was closed in both directions following the collision. The road reopened overnight.

BirminghamLive visited the scene this morning and ripped police tape was the only sign of the incident from the night before. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.51pm to reports of a collision on Portland Road in Smethwick Birmingham and sent an ambulance to the scene.

"On arrival, crews were made aware of a collision involving a car and a cyclist. The cyclist, a man, was treated by ambulance staff for serious injuries and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
