Roy Keane took exception to Ian Wright describing Manchester United as a ‘mid-table team’ (The Overlap)
Roy Keane accused Ian Wright of showing a lack of class after the former Arsenal striker described Manchester United as a ‘mid-table team’ during their 2-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
United held their own against Arsenal in the opening 45 minutes but two second-half goals from corners scored by Jurrien Timber and William Saliba sealed the win for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Keane and Wright were watching the game together as part of The Overlap’s first live ‘watchalong’ alongside fellow pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.
And with Arsenal two goals ahead, Keane took exception to Wright highlighting that United remain in the bottom half of the Premier League.
‘I think what we’ve done we’ve been very patient with a mid-table team that’s come and been very frustrating, they’ve really frustrated us,’ Wright said.
Wright then began to laugh as he added: ‘We just had to get it done, with the free kicks and set-pieces.’

Keane then told Wright: ‘Can I ask you, what age are you? You’re a grandfather, sitting there going, ‘mid-table team’, show some class, show some class.’
Wright then argued back: ‘No, I’m watching my team win, it’s got nothing to do with class, what’s that got to do with class?’
Keane fired back: ‘Show some class… a ‘mid-table team coming to defend’.’
Wright then asked Keane: ‘Was Jamie [Carragher] showing class just now?’
Keane replied: ‘Absolutely not.’

Wright then said: ‘Oh, you know what it is, when it’s United you can only go to a certain amount and then the United boys go quiet.
‘What I’m saying is, where are you in the league? That’s what I’m saying, all I’m saying is we’ve seen you off because we had to see the defensive side to what you were doing and we had to keep going, got it done with the set-pieces, didn’t say anything bad, no lies told.’
After the full-time whistle, Keane then directed his anger towards the Arsenal supporters who had stayed behind to watch William Saliba’s post-match interview by the side of the pitch.
‘Why are the Arsenal fans still hanging around? Just go,’ Keane said.
‘Just go home, the game’s over, the game was over half hour ago. The game’s over, kick them out.’
