Barcelona’s possible opponents in the Copa del Rey Round of 32 as draw nears

Copa del Rey’s second round matches are set to conclude on Thursday, paving the way for the round of 32 draw.

This stage marks the entry point for FC Barcelona, along with other Supercopa de Espana participants, including Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, and Mallorca.

This means the draw, scheduled for Monday, will reveal the Catalan side’s opponent in this next phase.

Major upsets in Copa del Rey already

Barcelona is set to face a team from either the Segunda RFEF or Primera RFEF, similar to the other Supercopa teams.

So far, Barbastro, Pontevedra, and Logrones from the Segunda RFEF have secured their spots in the round of 32, alongside Ourense from the Primera RFEF.

However, the remaining ten fixtures, which will be played on Thursday, could still produce surprises, adding to the tournament’s unpredictability.

The second round has already delivered some notable upsets. Barbastro caused a major shock by defeating Espanyol 2-0. Pontevedra managed to edge Villarreal with a narrow victory at the Municipal de Pasaron.

Meanwhile, Logrones advanced in dramatic fashion by winning a penalty shootout after a goalless draw against Girona. Ourense also secured their spot with a hard-fought win over Deportivo, a team recently promoted to La Liga 2.

Barcelona aware of the competition

As Barcelona prepares to join the competition, they will need to be wary of lower-league teams that have already demonstrated their ability to compete against stronger opposition.

The likes of Barbastro and Pontevedra have proven that determination and tactical discipline can make a significant difference, especially in a knockout tournament.

With the tournament heating up and potential surprises still on the cards, all eyes will be on Monday’s draw to see who Barcelona and the other Supercopa sides will face in the round of 32.
