Chelsea paid a record transfer fee to sign Moisés Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2023.
The midfielder made 48 appearances in all competitions last season and had mixed performances for the Blues.
Caicedo has been speaking to SportCenter explaining the challenges he faced at Chelsea last season, and his comments are relayed by [Olé](https://www.ole.com.ar/ecuador/ecuador-internacional/moises-caicedo-confiesa-chelsea-afecto-presion-sufrir-nuevo-ngolo-kante-cambio-mental-disfrutar-monento_0_qtbVUCzWfN.html).
The Ecuador international claims he felt the pressure of replacing N’Golo Kanté at Chelsea made it difficult for him initially. The west London club sold the Frenchman to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023.
Caicedo has opened up about multiple factors that made his situation complicated last season.
_“When you come to a big club, at the beginning the pressure is different here, first you have to adapt to all the team-mates and what the coach wants,”_ he said.
_“Being the most expensive player in the Premier League…. A lot of things that cost me because I had the pressure of being the new N’Golo Kanté._
_“That affected me a lot, but when I put that behind me, I started to focus only on helping my team and proving that I am worth what they paid for my transfer. I finished the last few games of last season very well and I knew that this new season was going to be mine because I set my mind to it.”_
The South American has talked about the support he received during the tough period to overcome struggles at Stamford Bridge.
_“The complicated thing happened, \[and\] I had a lot of people around me who helped me as well. I also prayed a lot to have good people around me and to be able to do things well. I’m very grateful to them and now I’m doing my best,”_ Caicedo explained.
The former Seagulls star has been impressing for Chelsea under Enzo Maresca’s orders this season, making 16 appearances in all competitions.
Last season, Chelsea finished sixth, but things have also improved for them this season as they are currently in second spot, ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City.
When asked if this is the ‘revenge season’ for the west London club, he said: _“We don’t take it as revenge, but we are focused on being at the top._
_“We know that the Premier League is complicated and long. We are up and fighting in every game, we are a very young team, but we really want to start winning something beautiful with this club.”_
