£39m Chelsea star shares what he and Enzo Fernandez have been working on after Southampton win

At present, Chelsea seem to be getting almost everything right on the pitch.

Enzo Maresca‘s men beat Southampton 5-1 on Wednesday night to move up to second in the Premier League table.

Axel Disasi opened the scoring for his side in the seventh minute, and the central defender has now given some insight into his goal.

Jadon Sancho also managed to find the back of the net at St Mary’s — his first time doing so in a blue shirt — and Disasi has also discussed that. “We are all happy for him,” Disasi said about Sancho after the game.

Axel Disasi and Enzo Fernandez worked on goal

One thing that Chelsea got right on Wednesday was their set-pieces. They scored from one and probably could have netted from at least one more.

It was Disasi who was on the receiving end of an Enzo Fernandez corner, and the 26-year-old has revealed that it is something that they have been working on.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after the game, he said: “It’s something we work a lot on. We know if we put the ball on the first post, they leave a lot of space, so Enzo put a great ball in and I just had to finish.”

Fernandez came in for praise before that Chelsea match. Andy Townsend had claimed that Fernandez was playing much better, having previously been dropped by Maresca.

Will Axel Disasi start against Tottenham?

Maresca now has a big decision to make going into Chelsea’s game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

This season, the Chelsea boss has mostly gone with a central defensive partnership of Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana.

However, with the latter injured, Maresca must now choose between Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile for the other centre-back spot.

Disasi played pretty well against Southampton. On top of his goal, he also won all four of his aerial duels.

With Badiashile not playing a single minute at St Mary’s, though, you get the impression that he may get the nod over Disasi, who joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in a £38.8m deal last year.

When Fofana had to be taken off during the Aston Villa game last weekend, it was Badiashile who replaced him, with Disasi not even being included in the squad that day.
