Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has explained what he believes is a key difference between Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez. The former striker was speaking after the Reds were held to a 3-3 draw with Newcastle United in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Salah scored two goals in the stalemate at St James' Park, with Curtis Jones on the score sheet where the Egyptian provided the assist. The brace from Salah took his goal tally for the season up to 15 in all competitions and he also has 12 assists to his name.

Nunez, meanwhile, had chances to score for Liverpool in the draw with Newcastle but could not find the back of the net. The Uruguay international has scored three goals this season for the Reds, with his last strike coming in the win over Aston Villa last month.

Fowler was part of Amazon Prime's coverage of Liverpool's draw at St James' Park and provided a comparison between Salah and Nunez. Fowler, who scored 183 goals for the Reds during his two spells with the club, reacted to one particular chance from Nunez in the second half.

"I think few times, Darwin Nunez gets into an area where his anticipation is a little bit too slow," Fowler told Amazon Prime Sport.

"With Mo [Salah], you sort of expect him to be where the ball should be. Whereas the No.9, Darwin Nunez, he probably waits for something to happen as opposed to Salah, who makes things happen."

Liverpool are next in action on Saturday when they face Everton in the Merseyside Derby. It remains to be seen if Arne Slot will hand Nunez another start, with Luis Diaz named on the bench for the trip to Newcastle and Diogo Jota remains on the sidelines with an injury.
