Arsenal are in the final stages of extending the contracts of Mikel Arteta’s backroom staff, with the club confident of finalising agreements with the likes of Nicolas Jover, Carlos Cuesta, Miguel Molina and Albert Stuivenberg, according to The Athletic.
The Gunners set-piece coach and his colleagues are expected to join manager Mikel Arteta in receiving extensions until 2027, along with a significant pay rise, and the 2-0 victory over Manchester United last night underlines his importance at the club.
Jover’s Arsenal stats are off the chart, with 22 goals scored from corners since the start of last season – more than any other Premier League club.
The North London club scored both goals through Jurrien Timber and William Saliba from the 13 corners they played against the Red Devils, and stopping them in those dead ball situations has constantly proven nearly impossible.
Jover moved to the Premier League in July 2016, joining Brentford, and he was with the Bees until June 2019 before he was brought to Manchester City by Arteta.
After the Arsenal manager signed his deal in September, the club set about negotiating renewals with his coaching staff, with managing director Richard Garlick picking up the talks following the resignation of sporting director Edu.
Jover and others deserve to be rewarded with improved deals, and the German-born Frenchman will now hope to help the Gunners win the Premier League title this term.
They have come close in the last two campaigns, missing out on it both times to Man City, and the win last night saw them move within seven points of league leaders Liverpool.
With 24 games still to go, there is enough time for Arsenal to move to the top of the table and remain there until the end of the season, and while their opponents will keep working to find ways to stop them from scoring from corners, Jover will continue to come up with different ideas to ensure they remain ahead.
