Liverpool has become the team to beat in the Premier League this season, with Arne Slot thriving without changing or adding to the squad he took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer. Slot has quickly elevated the team at Anfield with his high-intensity, exciting style of play that has uplifted the Merseysiders to new heights.
He’s also nurturing a squad packed with youthful talent, many of whom are shining at the U21 level. Among them is 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who joined Liverpool in September and is already making a name for himself.
Rio Ngumoha, a skilful left-winger, made his way through Chelsea’s youth ranks before making the switch to Liverpool—a move that reportedly infuriated the Blues as they lost one of their most prized teenage talents to a rival club.
The English forward, who has already earned three caps at the U17 level, is showing immense promise and is a prospect Liverpool are eager to nurture. If his impressive performances at youth level continue, a spot on Arne Slot’s substitutes bench might not be far off.
Liverpool edit training footage of promising talent Ngumoha
Ngumoha’s flair fuelled performances in training have reportedly been so impressive that Liverpool’s first-team defenders have struggled to contain him. His exceptional dribbling skills have created such a buzz that the club, according to Anfield Watch, is actively editing and removing footage of his displays from their Inside Training series to manage the growing hype around the 16-year-old.
The report highlights, “Ngumoha regularly terrorises first-team players in training, and the club has had to delete and edit out footage of his performances to contain the excitement surrounding the former Chelsea academy talent.”
Ngumoha has yet to break into Liverpool’s U21 side but is already making waves at the youth level. The 16-year-old has been a standout for the U18s, providing two assists in six games, and has also featured for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League. His debut in the competition came as a substitute in a goalless draw against AC Milan’s U19s.
Chelsea legend John Terry, who worked closely with Ngumoha during his time at Chelsea’s academy, has no doubts about the teenager’s immense potential. Praising his talent during the move to Anfield, Terry remarked, “This boy is and will be a top, top player.”

With Arne Slot’s desire to integrate young talent into the first team, including his recent faith in 17-year-old Trey Nyoni and the involvement of Conor Bradley and Jarrell Quansah, it seems inevitable that Rio Ngumoha could soon make his mark in the Premier League. If the 16-year-old continues to impress, we may witness a new star emerging from Liverpool’s academy, ready to take on top-tier defences and shine on the world stage.
