Cole Palmer and Enzo Maresca agree on Chelsea Premier League title verdict after Southampton win

Cole Palmer and Enzo Maresca have both made Chelsea's position in the Premier League title race perfectly clear. The Blues now sit outright second in the table after beating Southampton 5-1 which saw their goal difference leap above Arsenal's despite their 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Chelsea are now unbeaten in their last six Premier League games with Maresca's side putting in impressive displays against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa. Despite making a number of changes to his starting XI, the Blues still got the job done on the south coast and in style.

Following such an impressive performance, it was clear to see why the Chelsea supporters inside St Mary's Stadium were so pleased.

"That is our target and why we work every day, to keep them happy. Tonight was a very good feeling and especially the one that they can see Chelsea is back, this is the important thing." Though Maresca and his players are very much focused on the present, being above both Arsenal and Manchester City has seen title race questions asked.

Both Maresca and Palmer gave their thoughts on the possibility of winning silverware with it clear that Chelsea are not even thinking about that. "It's too early man," Palmer said after initially scoffing at the question. "We're just starting this season, so we're just playing."

Maresca meanwhile simply revealed what he is currently focused on. "Tottenham on Sunday," he replied with a big smile. As the 44-year-old states, a huge clash awaits Chelsea this weekend at the home of rivals Spurs with hope a concerning trend can be removed.

From the four games played against fellow big six opposition in this campaign, Chelsea have taken just two points from a possible 12. However, given Tottenham's inconsistencies, the west Londoners will fancy their chances to take all three points and in turn make quite the statement.
