Danny Rohl and Yan Valery were reunited this summer, as the Sheffield Wednesday boss signed his former Southampton player.
Sheffield Wednesday is just the latest chapter in a brief but impressive career for Danny Rohl and he continues to excel in S6.
Indeed, the Owls are now considered ‘outsiders’ for a promotion push this season after hitting a positive run of form recently.
After the incredible survival job he pulled off last season, Rohl has earned plaudits across the game, with the Sheffield Wednesday manager touted as one of the most exciting young coaches in football now.
But, Yan Valery saw those signs of greatness a long time ago, when Rohl was his assistant manager at Southampton.

Danny Rohl had a huge impact at Southampton
Speaking to Rob Staton for Football Heaven this week, Valery reflected on his time spent with Rohl at Southampton in 2018-2019, and revealed just how integral the German coach was to the inner-workings of the football club there.
“I’m really happy to be working with him again,” Valery said. “At Southampton he left at a moment when, as players, we didn’t really want him to leave; he was the one who was making decisions and doing video work with us as the assistant.”
“Now, being back with him and him having all this knowledge [from his time with Germany and Bayern], for me and for my progression it can only be good,” Valery added.

When asked how, if at all, Rohl has changed in the years since, Valery added: “He has to be different, he is the manager now. He can’t do everything, so there are some things that aren’t really part of his role that he used to do as assistant at Southampton.
“But as a person he is still the same. I enjoy working with him, I am learning every week. Every game is different, every approach, and all the tactics are different.”

Danny Rohl is destined for the top, with or without Sheffield Wednesday
Rohl has got the Sheffield Wednesday players playing attractive football, and the important thing to remember is, he is achieving relative success on a shoestring budget at Hillsborough.
There is no doubt that he possesses all the credentials any club would look for in a manager, and it’s scary to think what he could do with better resources if he went elsewhere. A number of top clubs have already taken a look at Rohl, including most recently Leicester City.
At just 35-years-old, Rohl still has so much more room to grow, too, and it is very likely that he will end up managing in the top flight in the future.
How soon that happens, and whether he does it with Sheffield Wednesday or not, remains to be seen. But, the fact of the matter is he will need backing from the club if they are to achieve their dreams together.
