Tottenham News speaking to Paul Robinson

Paul Robinson was amazed to learn that Guglielmo Vicario played 60 minutes for Tottenham against Manchester City with a broken ankle.
Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that the goalkeeper will be sidelined for months after undergoing surgery [BBC Sport], with Fraser Forster having to step up in between the sticks since.
Having received treatment after a clash with Savinho during the 4-0 win over Man City last month, many thought he was fine to continue, but it has emerged that is far from the truth.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He showed incredible character versus Manchester City. He likely didn’t realise what he’d done at the time but it was very early on in the game.
“And in all honesty, I think it was one of his best games in a Spurs shirt. He was outstanding to play through pain like that. He showed a lot of character, but it will be interesting going forward.

“Since Ange has been in charge, Vicario has started all 50 top-flight matches. Looking at his stats, only seven per cent of his passes from open play have gone over the halfway line, which just shows what an integral part of the squad he is.
Tottenham handed Guglielmo Vicario injury blow
“Only three goalkeepers have made more touches in open play – Flekken, Onana and Sanchez. He’s had 530 touches, which is the fourth-highest in the Premier League. That’s the one thing Spurs will miss.”

Alarm bells have been ringing ever since Vicario’s injury news emerged, with fans debating whether Forster is good enough to be in between the sticks as his understudy.
With Premier League and Champions League football to worry about, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman do not have the experience to help push Spurs forward, so there are questions to be answered ahead of the January window.
