Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has emphasised the critical role of trust in the relationship between players and their manager, suggesting that those who lack it should consider moving on.
The 32-year-old Italian has been a key figure for the Gunners both on and off the pitch since joining from Chelsea in February 2023, often wearing the captain’s armband under manager Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal currently sits third in the Premier League, level on points with second-place Chelsea and seven points behind leaders Liverpool, following a 2-0 victory over Manchester United. Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, a podcast hosted by the former Manchester United defender, Jorginho shed light on the bond within the Arsenal squad and his views on trust.

“We have this thing that we get each other,” Jorginho explained. “Sometimes something goes wrong, and the next one is different. We are really supportive.”

When asked about the significance of trust, Jorginho didn’t hold back. “It’s tough. You need to find somewhere else [if trust is lost],” he said. “I think even for yourself, that’s how you can get the best out of you. Because if you feel so uncomfortable, if you feel you can’t do things, it’s not going to work out for you.”

Jorginho’s candid remarks reflect the positive environment Arteta has cultivated at Arsenal, a factor that has influenced the midfielder’s own career aspirations. Once reluctant to consider coaching, Jorginho admitted that his time at the Emirates has changed his perspective.
“Since I was 18, my family and friends said, ‘You’re going to be a coach,’ and I always said no because it takes so much time,” Jorginho shared. “But at Arsenal, they offered the opportunity to do coaching badges, and I thought, ‘Why not? You never know.’ Then I did my first session – I fell in love!”
Jorginho described the joy he finds in coaching, from connecting with players to helping them improve. “I love giving information and seeing their quality. It fascinates me,” he added.
