Club Ambassador Steph Houghton MBE has been inducted into the Barclays Women’s Super League Hall of Fame for 2024.
Houghton has been chosen, alongside Alex Scott, Gilly Flaherty and Rebecca Welch, by the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame selection panel - featuring former players, coaches, officials, journalists and key figures from the women’s game.
Houghton, an iconic figure in football, joined City in 2014 and captained us for a decade, winning eight major trophies in sky blue - including the 2016 Barclays Women’s Super League title.
The 36-year-old called time on her playing career at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
But after a career total of 178 WSL games and 23 goals – as well as skippering England for eight years – she broke new ground earlier this year by becoming the first-ever female Club Ambassador of Manchester City.
Her official induction will take place at a special Barclays WSL celebration event in January 2025.
The selection panel includes Kelly Simmons, Rachel Pavlou, Ian Wright OBE, Hope Powell CBE, Vic Akers OBE, Marianne Spacey-Cale, Mary Phillip, Wendy Toms, Jess Creighton, Suzanne Wrack, Jen O’Neill and Kelly Smith MBE.
Houghton joins fellow former Blues Jill Scott MBE and Ellen White MBE in the Hall of Fame.
