Eddie Howe kept his promise to Mikel Arteta to give Arsenal a Premier League title boost

Arsenal will need more days and nights like Wednesday to pull themselves back into the Premier League title race. It is not just on the Gunners, but what Liverpool do in their matches too.

The pendulum swung just a little bit towards Arsenal on Wednesday night thanks to their 2-0 win over Manchester United and Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.

A late Caoimhin Kelleher mistake gifted Fabian Schar an equalising goal in the 90th minute at St James' Park, after Mohamed Salah had looked to have secured all three points for the Reds with a fine double.

Those dropped two points mean the Reds lead at the top of the Premier League table has shrunk to seven points now, with the Gunners and Chelsea sitting waiting to pounce. The gap is still significant, but Arsenal will believe they have a chance, particularly with Liverpool facing another difficult away day at the weekend.

It's the Merseyside Derby for Arne Slot - his first in English football - and Everton are going into it off the back of a fine 4-0 win over Wolves at home on Wednesday night.

It will be interesting to see what Sean Dyche has to say ahead of the game, with his press conference due to take place on Friday, particularly after Magpies boss Eddie Howe made a promise to Arteta ahead of Newcastle's draw with Liverpool.

Howe said in the build-up to the game: "We will always go to attack. I make no apologies for that. I would rather not be in a job than not fulfil that promise to the supporters. We want to entertain, ultimately."

Newcastle certainly did that and they got their rewards from it in that thrilling 3-3 draw. And that was a major boost to the Gunners. Now if Everton can only do the same...
