A former Leicester City fan favourite Harvey Barnes could be sold by Newcastle in the January transfer window. It hasn't gone to plan for him at St James Park.
Leicester City sold Harvey Barnes in 2023, after a tremendous time breaking through the Filbert Way academy. Barnes first broke onto the scene and made his senior Leicester debut in 2016 and he even won the Community Shield in 2021.
Massive things were expected of Harvey Barnes when he signed for Newcastle United. Of course, he signed just after Newcastle broke into the Premier League top four and in their first season back in the Champions League.
However, it hasn't gone entirely to plan for the former Fox in the North of England. Now, he could be shown the door in the January transfer window.
According to a report from Mark Douglas of The i, Newcastle United will listen to offers for some of their star players in the January transfer window. They are also contemplating offers for Harvey Barnes, which might come as a surprise to their supporters.
Harvey Barnes has not had too many opportunities to prove himself. Of course, he plays in a position which is under threat at Newcastle, with the Magpies making their transfer demands clear - They want to sign a new winger.
Barnes, despite not being an assured starter, has made a great start to the season. Regardless of only making five starts in the league this season, Barnes has scored four goals, only bettered by Alexander Isak at Newcastle.
Leicester fans liked seeing Barnes score his goal against East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest, back in November. Even this, though, came from a substitute cameo.
It would be rather harsh for Newcastle to sell Harvey Barnes without being given a proper chance. Leicester fans know what he can provide to an attack.
Therefore, it does raise the question about whether Leicester should consider bringing him back. Unfortunately, this is likely to only be possible through the loan route, which might not benefit Newcastle who would prefer to raise some funds for January transfers.
If van Nistelrooy would even want him, that is. We are merely talking in a hypothetical world here. It would divert from Leicester's transfer plan, after all.
