'We want to be relentless': Eddie Howe speaks about how he wants his Newcastle United to play

ยท December 5 2024, 13:00

**This season , Newcastle United have been the ultimate Jekyll and Hyde team where they either play excellent and look formidable, or look as though they are leagues out of their depth.**

That's looking at things purely from a performance perspective as there have been many times where we've looked to be by far the better team but come away from games empty-handed and vice versa.

Heading into the midweek clash against Liverpool, Newcastle were coming into the game off the back of two horror shows which were so bad, Wor Flags abandoned their tribute to Kevin Keegan and went for a display more geared around rallying behind the team.

Right across from the tunnel was a banner that read "Get into them", and get into them they did.

Eddie Howe said the "Get Into Them' banner epitomises what NUFC want to be

After the game, Eddie Howe was asked about the banner when speaking to [NUFC TV](https://www.newcastleunited.com/en/video/728245) and the gaffer admitted that it gave him a wry smile when he saw it.

> "I did have a little wry smile when I saw the banner. "It's a beautiful thing when you come to a football club when the style has been set previously from previous managers of how the team and the club wants to play football, and of course, everyone will talk about Kevin's \[Keegan\] team and the entertainers, and of course that carefree attacking nature, we need to embrace it, and we need to deliver it. It's not easy to do, it's hard to do.

> "That banner sort of epitomises everything that we want to be. We do want to get into teams, regardless of who we play. we do want to attack, we want to be relentless in that pursuit of improvement, and today was a big step."

Newcastle can go on to build up a head of steam now

---------------------------------------------------

Newcastle had 17 attempts on goal with six of those being on target last night which is a massive leap forward from Sunday's pathetic one off target attempt.

The performance and who it was against, combined with the fact that we scored three goals should be a huge boost to confidence with a difficult away trip to Brentford to come at the weekend.

We know what Newcastle are like when they build up a head of steam and with no international breaks until March, it's the perfect time to start a run of good results.

HOWAY THE LADS!
