"I Know For A Fact" - John O'Shea Shares Inside Knowledge On Caoimhín Kelleher's Future

In a busy night of Premier League action, possibly the most shocking thing that occurred was Caoimhín Kelleher's mistake in goal for Liverpool against Newcastle.

The young Irishman pulled out from catching a high ball, assuming it would go wide, only for it to fall to a Newcastle player and into the net.

The reason it is so shocking is because the shot-stopper has been incredible since stepping into Alisson's role as Liverpool number one over the past few weeks.

In the first half he did save Liverpool with some brilliant goalkeeping, and overall, most sane Liverpool fans will have been delighted with their number two, but as has been made clear, Kelleher is no longer interested in that role.

The Ireland keeper wants to be the number one, and it looks increasingly likely that he will leave in this summer.

Former Ireland defender and current assistant manager of the national team John O'Shea, seems to know more than most, when it comes to the Cork native's situation.

"He is unflappable. He's a great character, and he is everything you want from your goalkeeper.

"If I was playing in front of Caoimhín - he's just calm and relaxed, he just oozes confidence every time, and it's brilliant that he has just shown that consistency again.

"I think he is going to have lots of teams, all around Europe looking for him, and I'm sure they will be knocking down the doors very soon. "

When asked if Kelleher has ever gone to O'Shea personally for advice about his situation, the Waterford native admitted that he has spoke to him about it, but underlined that it is completely up to the Ireland number one.

"He is more than capable of taking that decision himself, and I know for a fact there will be lots more teams looking at him because I just think he is a number one top European goalkeeper.

"He needs to be number one now, and he knows that, and I think Liverpool won't be able to stop him.

"It could be London, it could be Newcastle, you never know."

With Alisson back from injury, Kelleher's mistake against Newcastle might mean that Arne Slot will finally put the Brazilian back in nets for this weekend's Merseyside derby.

However, as brilliant as the Brazil international is, there is no question that he struggles with injuries, and it is very likely that we will see Kelleher a few more times in Liverpool's nets before the summer arrives.
