Gael Clichy revisits Man City’s title chances after 3-0 win over Forest, predicts ‘twists and…

Manchester City managed to bring an end to their Premier League losing streak on Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

City headed into this game having lost their four previous league matches, across which they scored two goals and conceded 10.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the eighth minute with his first league goal of the campaign, before Kevin De Bruyne doubled City’s lead at the Etihad Stadium before halftime.

A third goal from Jeremy Doku secured the win for Pep Guardiola’s side, who also managed to keep just their third league clean sheet of the season.

In terms of where this win leaves the champions in terms of potentially winning a fifth consecutive league trophy, a pundit and former title-winner with City discussed that very subject after the club’s midweek victory.

Gael Clichy discusses Man City’s title chances after Forest win

As part of the punditry panel in Amazon Prime Video Sport’s coverage of City’s win over Forest (via BBC Sport), Gael Clichy shared this verdict on the Manchester club’s chances of winning the Premier League title.

MORE MAN CITY STORIES

He said: “As long as mathematically it is not over you cannot count Man City out of the title race.

“The Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Three days ago there was a gap of 11 points and then the best team as of today, Liverpool, dropped points.

“There are going to be twists and turns. For sure if they get their players back from injury Man City are going to be there, 100%.

“We are not talking about a team that has won the FA Cup or a Carabao Cup or the Premier League just once. City are a team that over the last ten years have won a lot, a Treble, four titles in a row, we have never seen this before.

“Maybe perhaps at times that is taken for granted. People were clapping their hands because we are not used to seeing them lose, but you don’t perform this way for ten years just like that.

“There is no perfection in football but over the last ten years, Man City have been close. In the way that they play and the way that they have been run, City have been there.”

Jamie Carragher has already ruled City out of the title race

After last weekend’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool, Jamie Carragher dismissed City’s title chances following their quartet of league defeats, saying this on the subject.

He said: “I think it’s almost a mini-crisis for Manchester City. I think it’s reminiscent of Liverpool two years ago. I actually think Man City might have a fight on their hands for the top four.

“I actually look at Arsenal and Chelsea and the way they’re looking now and I think it will be difficult to finish above them if they don’t go into the market in January.”

Wednesday ended with City’s gap between them and Liverpool getting cut from 11 points to nine as Arne Slot’s side drew 3-3 with Newcastle United.

On this subject, De Bruyne discussed Liverpool’s draw after the Forest game, admitting that now is not the right time for City to concern themselves with what their title rivals are doing.

However, as well as winning their first league game since October, seeing Liverpool drop points will undoubtedly be an added bonus for the Blues.

With Clichy now refusing to rule City out of the title race, everyone at the Manchester club will now have to make sure they continue winning matches and close the gap between them and Liverpool as much as possible.
