Fabrizio Romano was wowed by Ashley Young’s free-kick against Wolves in the 4-0 Everton win on Wednesday.

The Toffees secured a much-needed win at Goodison Park in emphatic fashion, netting four to leave Gary O’Neil’s future in serious doubt.

The 38-year-old started the scoring with a well-placed free kick which transfer specialist Romano was impressed by in his Daily Briefing (5 December).

He said: “What a free kick by Ashley Young as Everton produced one of the performances of the season.”

The ex-England international has never been the most popular figure in his spell at Goodison but remains a consistent player under Sean Dyche.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The elder statesman of the Toffees’s side kicked off the scoring against Wolves with an excellent effort which left Jose Sa clutching at thin air.

Despite suspect positioning of the away side’s wall, the versatile defender still had a lot to do to curl the ball around and into the near post.

With just 10 minutes on the clock, this was exactly what Dyche needed to put his men on the right path to securing a positive result against a rival at the bottom end of the Premier League.

Set pieces were a large part of securing this win, outside of Young’s effort, with Dwight McNeil being directly involved in three of the four as Orel Mangala netted his first Toffees goal before two Craig Dawson own goals.

There was a lot right with the performance at Goodison but was all kick-started by a piece of quality from the 38-year-old.
