Arsenal got the better of Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday, with Jurrien Timber among the goalscorers.
Mikel Arteta’s side beat United 2-0 in North London and are now third in the Premier League table. Alan Shearer believes that Arsenal will challenge Liverpool, who are seven points clear at the top.
Timber opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 54th minute. The 23-year-old defender found the back of the net with a header at the near post from a Declan Rice corner.
French defender William Saliba made it 2-0 for the Gunners in the 73rd minute. Midfielder Thomas Partey headed winger Bukayo Saka’s corner against Saliba’s back and the ball went in.
For Timber, it was his first goal for Arsenal. The Netherlands international joined the Gunners for £34 million (BBC Sport) in the summer of 2023, but he spent most of last season sidelined with a serious knee injury.
Arteta is using the defender regularly now, and his goal and performance against United impressed Arsenal midfielder Rice as well as Newcastle United defender Sven Botman, who played with him at Ajax.
While responding to Timber’s post on Instagram, Rice wrote: “so so happy for you”, while Botman noted: “Sterkkk👏”
