Everton midfielder James Garner has mocked Ashley Young on instagram after the Blues 4-0 victory against Wolves.

The 39-year-old scored a free-kick to open the scoring at Goodison Park on Wednesday evening as the Toffees strolled to a comfortable win.

The former Manchester United man became the Blues oldest-ever goalscorer at the age of 39 years and 148 days.

However, Garner, who has been out since October 5, reminded him that it was an unwanted record to break on a post by the club on social media announcing Young’s feat, saying: “you didn’t want this stat did you.” with the eyes and laughing emojis.

The veteran rolled back the clock with his performance against Wolves, with a Man of the Match performance.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

It has been a good week for the defender, with the FA Cup draw earlier in the week granting him the opportunity to play against his 18-year-old son.

The Blues need the veteran to be in top form with a brutal run of matches coming up in the festive period, the Toffees will play Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in quick succession.

There had been calls for Nathan Patterson to come into the side in his place before the contest but Young cemented his place in the starting XI with his stellar performance.

His record-breaking effort and overall performance mean that he should start against arch-rivals Liverpool on Saturday (7 December).

While it is signaling that Young is in the twilight of his career, if he keeps scoring goals and breaking records, the player or the club will not mind.

In other Everton news, a former goalkeeper has labelled Wolves as terrible for a moment that happened during the 4-0 loss.
