Throughout this season, it has been clear that Newcastle United’s superstars are capable of more.
The big name players have not delivered on a consistent basis, which has contributed towards a stuttering start to the season for Newcastle United.
However, there were signs of change on Wednesday night as Newcastle drew 3-3 with Liverpool.
Anthony Gordon was outstanding on the left wing, while Bruno Guimaraes put in a captain’s performance.

Elsewhere, Alexander Isak proved why he is one of the best strikers in world football.
He opened the scoring for Newcastle United with an incredible goal, while he also got an assist for Gordon’s strike.
It was a complete performance from the 25-year-old who was involved in everything good about the Magpies’ display. He should be proud of his efforts, and Eddie Howe told the Independent after the game that he thought it was Isak’s best outing of the 2024/25 campaign.

“I think it was Alex’s best performance of the season for us,” he said.
“First of all, let’s take his goal. It was a goal out of nothing for us, really, and this season we’ve missed those.
“Last season, he regularly scored goals that he was probably not expected to score, and those moments of magic can swing games your way, and that was a massive step towards doing that.
“He was elusive, difficult to mark and difficult to pick up and was popping up all over the place. He’s a great dribbler, so it was great to see those qualities back in his game, and I just thought it was a top performance from him.”

Alexander Isak did something for the first time against Liverpool
By scoring against Liverpool on Wednesday night, Isak now has six goals to his name this season. He is Newcastle’s top scorer once again, and will hope to hit double figures before 2024 comes to an end.
The goal also meant that Isak added to his impressive record against Liverpool, with the Sweden international now boasting three goals in five appearances versus the Reds.
He is clearly not afraid of playing against Virgil van Dijk, but his goal on Wednesday night was actually his first against Liverpool at St James’ Park. His other two strikes came at Anfield, but now he has found the net on home soil.
I think Howe’s assessment of Isak’s performance is probably correct. While he has been back amongst the goals as of late after a slow start to the season, the Liverpool game saw him offer even more.
He was not isolated at times like he has been this season, as he constantly looked to stretch the Liverpool defence with his pace and trickery. And it could have been an even better night, as Isak arguably should have been given a penalty after a challenge in the box by Jarrell Quansah.
Isak was exceptional, and the hope will be that he carries that form into Saturday’s clash with Brentford.
