Jamie Carragher was told he was ‘out of order’ for wearing a Manchester United shirt on The Overlap on Wednesday night. The Liverpool legend joined Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright in a live watch-along on the latest round of Premier League fixtures.

The Reds had moved nine points clear of Arsenal and Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table after beating Man City last weekend. But their advantage has now been cut to seven points after they were held to a 3-3 draw away at Newcastle United.

With the Gunners hosting Manchester United, Carragher briefly disappeared during the broadcast before returning in the shirt of Liverpool’s bitter-rivals ahead of Wednesday’s later kick-off- though his cheeky gesture initially went unnoticed by his colleagues.

Donning United’s infamous grey shirt from the 1995/96 season, Carragher was left smirking as he waited for Neville, Keane and Wright to spot his attire, with the Reds legend no doubt hoping that the Red Devils would have been able to take points off the Gunners at the Emirates to boost Liverpool's own early title-hopes as he put aside his own allegiances.

Neville, who was sat next to Carragher, did a double-take when belatedly spotting the United shirt before bursting out laughing and twice saying, “F**king hell!”

Wright was still yet to spot Carragher’s shirt, having just asked how his former club, Arsenal, were getting on, so queried what the pair were laughing at. He then burst out laughing himself, as Keane also smirked, after Neville pointed to the Red Devils top.

“No wonder you couldn’t see him!” Neville joked, referencing how Sir Alex Ferguson had once made United change their kit at half-time in a defeat to Southampton, claiming his players had been unable to see each other due to the grey shirts.

“I didn’t even see it!” Wright then laughed. “You’re out of order. You’re out of order, Jamie, wearing that!”

Meanwhile, Carragher would also share a text he received from Micah Richards during the broadcast as Liverpool were held 3-3 by Newcastle United.

After seeing Mohamed Salah, who is out of contract at Anfield next summer, recording two goals and an assist against the Magpies, Carragher revealed: “Micah Richards has just text me: ‘give him what he wants’!”
