West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui will be in charge of the club for Monday night’s Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to reports.
There has been widespread speculation over the future of the Hammers’ boss over the last few days with a 3-1 away defeat against Leicester City on Tuesday night piling more pressure on. It was during that game that some sections of the travelling West Ham fans sang ‘sacked in the morning’ towards their own manager.
The result at the King Power Stadium was West Ham’s second in a row, following the weekend’s 5-2 loss against Arsenal. It also leaves the club looking over their shoulder in 14th position, six points away from the relegation places.
It was reported on Wednesday that Lopetegui was facing a fight to save his job with the club having ongoing discussions regarding the 58-year-old’s future. Despite that, Lopetegui did take training as normal on Thursday, as the team step up their preparations for Monday night’s home clash against Wolves.
The BBC, as well as various other reports now claim that the manager will, in fact, remain in charge for that game. The match will see the manager come up against his former club, and it’s a game that could be crucial in the fight for survival.
Wolves fell to a 4-0 defeat against Everton on Wednesday night, piling doubt on the future of manager Gary O’Neil. Like Lopetegui, the boss was the subject of chants from his own fans in the away end.
Wolves have won two and lost nine of their opening 14 games of the season, leaving them in 19th place in the Premier League table. Despite their struggles this season, Sky Sports report that O’Neil is expected to still be in charge of the team when they travel to the London Stadium.
