Liverpool spent a long time courting Jude Bellingham before his move to Real Madrid last summer.
Indeed, Liverpool were linked with Bellingham for an eternity before Real Madrid swooped in and got a deal done.
Bellingham was asked about Liverpool last week ahead of the Reds’ game against Real Madrid, and that narrative continues to bubble away despite Bellingham now playing for arguably the biggest club in the world.
Liverpool didn’t sign Bellingham last summer, but they did end up bringing in a few new midfielders.
Indeed, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch all arrived last summer, and all three players have been brilliant this season.
Gravenberch, in particular, has really kicked on this term, and speaking on The Lineup, Rafael van der Vaart has claimed that Gravenberch actually has more potential as a player than Jude Bellingham.

Ryan Gravenberch has more potential than Jude Bellingham
Van der Vaart shared his verdict on the Liverpool midfielder.
The pundit says that he thinks Gravenberch has more potential than Bellingham as he’s a more complete player.
Gravenberch has been compared to Patrick Vieira this season.
“Last season he was on the bench, but I know Gravenberch from Ajax, and his potential, the way he plays, he’s tall, it looks so easy. I said his potential is much more than Jude Bellingham, but Bellingham was scoring every game for Real Madrid, lucky shots, he’s a good player, but I think he has much more to offer. Now I’m happy that I was a bit right. I love Bellingham, but Gravenberch is a complete midfielder.”
What Rafael van der Vaart said about Mohamed Salah
Gravenberch wasn’t the only Liverpool player Van der Vaart had high praise for during this podcast.
Indeed, the former Tottenham midfielder also named Mohamed Salah as the best player in the world when discussing Liverpool’s brilliant start to the season.
“Is Mo Salah the best player in the world right now?” Van der Vaart was asked.
“I think so, yeah. I’m a big fan of Mbappe, but he’s not showing it at the moment,” Van der Vaart said.
“What about Vinicius?” The host asked.
“No, I think Salah is consistent through many years, he feels at home at Liverpool. and he should stay,” Van der Vaart said.
Salah came up with the goods again on Wednesday evening as he scored two goals against Newcastle, and it’s hard to argue against the Egyptian being the best player on the planet at the moment.
Between Gravenberch and Salah, Liverpool have two of the most in-form players in the Premier League, and that’s before we even mention Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Luis Diaz.
Liverpool are top of the Premier League for a reason, and the Merseyside club look good value to become champions come the end of the season.
