'I promise': Jason Cundy predicts who'll finish higher in the Premier League this season - Chelsea or Arsenal

Chelsea and Arsenal remain level on points after both sides won their midweek fixtures.

While Liverpool are the current runaway leaders at the top of the Premier League table, there’s an interesting battle going on just below between Chelsea and Arsenal to catch them.

The Blues won 5-1 away at Southampton on Wednesday evening. As for the Gunners, they recorded a 2-0 home victory over Manchester United last night. It means the two London rivals can only be separated on goal difference after 14 gameweeks.

Jamie Carragher thinks Chelsea will finish above Manchester City during this league season, but how high can they go with this young squad under Enzo Maresca’s management?

Jason Cundy thinks Chelsea will finish below Arsenal

TalkSPORT pundit and Chelsea fan Jason Cundy doesn’t believe his former club are competing for the Premier League title this season. In fact, he still thinks the Blues are destined to finish below Arsenal in the division table.

When asked if Chelsea are in a title race this season, Cundy told talkSPORT: “No.”

Cundy was later asked if Arsenal are in a title race, he responded: “Yes. They’re better than us (Chelsea). They will end up above us in the table. I promise you we are not that team yet.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot massively rates Chelsea, suggesting they’re capable of going on a long winning streak. As it stands, the Blues have won their last four consecutive matches across all competitions.

Maresca has talked down any talk that his side could be in a title fight, which is fair enough when you consider this group’s inexperience and sudden rise this year. It’s going to take far longer before everyone is fully convinced by the squad.

Darren Bent thinks Chelsea are destined for the top four, but a title push is beyond them at this moment.

Chelsea’s record vs the big teams

So far this season, Chelsea have played each of their current rivals inside the top four once. It’s quite telling that they’ve picked up only one point from the three fixtures.

Chelsea vs Arsenal 1-1

Chelsea against the top four clubs this season

The fact that Maresca’s side still travel to the Etihad Stadium and the Emirates Stadium later in the season should serve as a reminder to people getting carried away with Chelsea’s recent form.

At the same time, the Blues are doing very well picking apart the teams lower down the division, which is a skill in itself. It could be enough to get them back into the top four and the Champions League, too.
