Barcelona yet to make contact with defender over new contract – future uncertain

Barcelona have started talks with a number of key players this season, with 13 players out of contract in 2026 or sooner. One of them is Andreas Christensen, but there has not been any communication with his agents so far about a fresh deal.

The Danish defender played a starring role in his first season as the Blaugrana charged to the league title, but last year was hampered by injuries, playing some of the season in midfield towards the end of the Xavi Hernandez era. This year he has been out since the first game due to an Achilles’ tendon issue.

Christensen is focused on his recovery currently, and the club also want him to come back first before thinking about anything else. Barcelona believe that there will be time to discuss his future, and Christensen has no intention of leaving in January or next summer, but Marca say there is no certainty where he will be beyond 2026. That does not mean to say that Barcelona are not considering an extension, but so far they are yet to take a decision.
