“He has things he can do better” – Maresca continues his demanding streak with comments about…

Chelsea made themselves into the top scorers in the Premier League last night when they unleashed a flurry of 5 goals against Southampton.

But in a chat with Sky Sports today, Enzo Maresca decided to focus on a different player in his team – midfield dynamo Moises Caicedo, who never slows down and never even seems to take a minute off.

According to Maresca, he was never in doubt about the midfielder’s quality, even from his days before joining the Blues:

“I’m not surprised because I know Moi from Brighton, from years ago. I know how good he is,” the coach explained.

But as we saw with his comments about Noni Madueke last night, Maresca is now very happy to ask for more from his players, especially when results are so positive. As always, the demands are couched in a very generous compliment sandwich, so nobody is left with hurt feelings, but we love to see the coach demanding more:

“For sure he’s one of the best [midfielders in the league] but he has things he can do better and improve like the rest. With us he’s doing fantastic on and off the ball, working hard. We are very happy with him.”

Caicedo already one of the league’s best – and can get better

Caicedo had some very shaky games early in his Chelsea career, and we all know where the weak points in his game are. But he’s without doubt now looking one of the best players in his position in the league, and we’re sure Maresca is delighted with the steady progress being made on his watch.

Not long ago he dodged the chance to call the Ecuador star one of the best in the league. Now he’s saying it himself, unprompted.
