Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has insisted that his time at Arsenal does not linger over him, with the disappointment now “internalised” and used to make him a better coach.

The Spaniard is currently one of the leading coaches in Europe, with Aston Villa competing at the top end of the Premier League and in the Champions League.
He’s very much back on top in England after a previous difficult spell at Arsenal where he arrived in May 2018 to replace Arsene Wenger.
He led them to the Europa League final and fifth in the table in his first year in charge but a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in the former seriously tarnished his reputation at the club.
That followed him into his second season in charge and by November 2019 he had been sacked following a 2-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.
His spell at the Emirates was not what either party had expected by Emery holds no grudges, insisting that Arsenal experience is now a part of his learning process.
“There are coaches who have had success in the very short term and then in the long term they have not,” he said.
“Being recognised comes when you are able to have consistency. Even my consistency was cut short in Moscow when I left Spartak after six months, or in Paris when after two years and more or less fulfilling the objectives, the most important one was missing, that of giving PSG more greatness.
“When I was at Arsenal and even playing in the Europa League final and finishing fifth in the league, there were still things missing… I have internalised all of that and identified it in myself as a person and coach, as another process.”
