**Newcastle legend Alan Shearer still believes that Liverpool are “favourites” for the Premier League title despite slipping up against his former club.**
A late mistake from goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher meant that the Reds dropped two points. Despite [**Arsenal**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-news-kai-havertz-arsenal-title-race/) closing the gap on the league leaders, though, Shearer said the Gunners would still have to be “close to perfect” if they want to catch Arne Slot’s side:
“Liverpool are favourites now for the Premier League title after their start to the season. It’s not all going to be perfection for them, though. They will have to answer some questions, like they did at Newcastle tonight.”
“Arsenal are the closest to them and they are the ones that are going to challenge them. I don’t see Manchester City coming back from where they are, even though they are back to winning ways. They’ve left themselves with a lot to do. It’s going to be tough for Arsenal though, because they will have to be close to perfect.”
Liverpool have some big tests coming up
---------------------------------------
A draw at St James’ Park is not the end of the world as long as Slot’s men don’t give away more points in subsequent games. That will be easier said than done considering their fixture list.
They face rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. The Reds’ title challenge came unstuck there last season so they will be hoping for a better result this weekend.
After the Toffees, there are also matches against Fulham, Tottenham, Leicester, West Ham and Manchester United coming up over the next month.
The bookies still regard the Reds as title favourites
-----------------------------------------------------
The draw against Newcastle may have lengthened their odds somewhat but the Merseysiders are still odds-on to finish top of the table. They are priced at 8/11 with some bookmakers.
Arsenal are second favourites, while City and Chelsea are not considered genuine contenders at this stage.
