Frank Leboeuf predicts if Chelsea can win the Premier League after 5-1 win over Southampton

Chelsea were in electric form last night as they moved up to second in the Premier League with a 5-1 win over Southampton.

Enzo Maresca took the risk of rotating his side heavily for the trip to St. Mary’s, something he has normally done for games in the Conference League this season.

The performance of Joao Felix summed up why he was right to make this call, and now they look set to be well rested ahead of the big game on Sunday against Tottenham.

The Blues moved above Arsenal in the Premier League with the dominant victory, and closed the gap to seven points on runaway leaders Liverpool after they dropped points at Newcastle.

Maresca has continued to play down talk of the Blues being in the race for the title, while Cole Palmer bluntly said it was too early to be thinking of that yet.

Frank Leboeuf seems to echo these thoughts. He has said to ESPN that he still believes it is a two-horse race

“In the title race I still put Arsenal and Liverpool. I think City is going to struggle. I don’t have Chelsea in the title race.

“Only Arsenal and Liverpool for me. I want to be cautious. Arsenal can react well and if Liverpool start losing points like today.”

Chelsea topping Premier League stats in 24/25

The situation Chelsea find themselves in now is remarkable when taking into account where they were just 12 months ago under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues also sit first for a number of stats from all teams in the Premier League, some more positive than others.

They are the top scorers in the division with a total of 31 goals in 14 games, added to healthily by the five they scored at St. Mary’s last night.

However, they have the worst discipline in the Premier League, racking up the most yellow cards in the division. Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have already missed a game this season due to suspension.
