Barcelona have been one of the most improved teams in Europe this season, producing a great showing in both league and Europe.
Under the leadership of Hansi Flick, the Catalans have fired on all cylinders. However, despite their early season plaudits, Barça will miss out on the inaugural season of the newly revamped FIFA Club World Cup.
Barcelona’s poor performances in Europe in previous seasons doomed them for a place in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which is set to generate sizable revenue.
How much are Barcelona missing out on?
Naturally, Barcelona are set to miss out on a chunk of that revenue by failing to qualify for this revamped tournament, which is now going to be held every four years.
As reported by SPORT, FIFA President Gianni Infantino had earlier claimed that each participating team in the FIFA Club World Cup is set to receive a whopping €50 million.
While the final participation fee will be way less, the report suggests each participating team will receive up to €28 million.
This is simply the base payment, which will be given to each team. The payment is set to increase based on the success of each team in the tournament.
As per the report, the winners of the FIFA Club World Cup will receive close to €100 million, which is quite a fortune.
Barcelona, therefore, are missing out on a potential €100 million worth of fresh revenue simply by failing to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup.
This huge chunk of revenue could have gone a long way in relieving the club’s balance sheets and helping the club return to the 1:1 rule.
