Chris Sutton has been discussing Chelsea and Liverpool’s respective squads after Wednesday night’s round of Premier League fixtures.
Chelsea showed their squad depth after making seven changes and beating Southampton 5-1 away from home.
Liverpool, meanwhile, dropped points after drawing 3-3 with Newcastle United but remain seven points clear at the top of the table.
The Blues now look to be in the title race, but Enzo Maresca is not getting carried away. Maresca has already warned Noni Madueke he needs to improve despite the winger grabbing a goal and assist at St Mary’s.

Chris Sutton on Chelsea and Liverpool
Following their win against Southampton after making seven changes to their team, Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman suggested that Chelsea’s squad is unrivalled.
Sutton, however, actually thinks Liverpool have a better group of players than their Premier League rivals.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off!, the former Blackburn Rovers forward said: “I would argue that Liverpool have a slightly stronger squad. I’d agree with what you’re saying about Chelsea to an extent, but should Southampton be the barometer of the changes?

“We know they do that in the Europa Conference League as well, but can we judge based on walloping Southampton, who everybody sort of does?”
Following their latest outing, Jamie Carragher has backed Chelsea to finish above Manchester City, who are the current Premier League champions.
Do Liverpool really have a better squad than Chelsea?
Player for player, most would agree that Liverpool have a superior starting XI than Chelsea.
It has some truly world-class players in it like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, players who have been lining up alongside each other for years now.
It is no surprise that the Reds are doing so well under Arne Slot. Rather, what has been a shock is City’s underperformance and how far they have fallen behind Liverpool.
In terms of the bench Chelsea have and their overall squad, though, the Blues look stronger than the league leaders.
The seven changes that Maresca made on Wednesday saw Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, Madueke, Malo Gusto, Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo and Filip Jorgensen all come into the side. All of those players are getting into most of the teams in the country.
