Blow for Man United as target nears new deal

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim suffered the first defeat of his tenure on Wednesday as his side were beaten 2-0 by rivals Arsenal.

The Red Devils went into the match at The Emirates having won two and drawn one of Amorim’s first three games in charge, but second-half goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba earned the Gunners a crucial victory.

The result leaves United 11th in the Premier League table, while Arsenal sit third and close the gap to leaders Liverpool to seven points after the Reds drew 3-3 against Newcastle United.

Next up for United is a game against Nottingham Forest, before a trip to face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League group phase.

In the meantime, it appears that the Manchester club have been dealt a transfer blow.

As per Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, German side Bayern Munich are making progress in their attempts to agree a new contract with Man United target Alphonso Davies.

Davies could soon sign a new contract with Bayern Munich

The left-back has been a target for the Red Devils for some time now, as they hunt for a new left-sided full-back amid frequent injury problems for both Luke Shaw Tyrell Malacia.

Davies, 24, joined Bayern from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps back in 2019 and has since played more than 200 times for the Bavarian side, scoring 11 times and providing 34 assists.

His current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, but Plettenberg claims that talks over an extension have advanced and it is looking increasingly likely that the Canadian will sign a new deal with his current employers.

He claims that United are aware of the situation, although some key details still need to be finalised before the player will put pen-to-paper on an extension.
