Evangelos Marinakis has discussed the possibility of hiring Edu Gaspar, with the Arsenal sporting director widely expected to take a new job with the Nottingham Forest owner.

Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar resigned from his position at the club last month, with reports suggesting he had agreed to take up a role working with the group of teams controlled by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Arsenal have confirmed Edu’s exit, but a month later we’re still yet to get any formal confirmation that the sporting director really is moving to Marinakis’ group.

Speaking to the media this week, Marinakis has confirmed that he intends to work with Edu, and he’s optimistic it will go ahead. Though he stopped short of actually announcing the appointment.
“Edu was a very good player, a very good sporting and technical director before,” Marinakis said. “I have a lot of respect for him. He has done an excellent job at Arsenal.
“I would like to cooperate with him on a much bigger project, global project. And I’m optimistic that in case all this goes ahead, it will be another successful venture for both of us.”

David Ornstein revealed last month that Edu’s departure was a shock to everybody at Arsenal, with many at the club not knowing it was coming until it broke in the media.
But Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports denied any reports of a ‘power struggle’ leading to Edu’s exit.
It seems the decision was purely down to the sporting director’s ambitions to move into a new role, and Marinakis’ comments imply it’s only a matter of time until that role is confirmed.
