Footage has emerged online of water surging down the stands of [Everton's](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/everton-fc) incomplete new stadium and into the arena's concourse.
The video shared on X, taken inside the [Toffees](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/everton-fc) soon-to-be new home at Bramley-Moore Dock, alleges a 'leak' has caused the downpour. Water can been seen running into the concourse before the stairs and stands are seen under a sheet of water. The camera pans up to the back of the stand with a deluge visibly flowing down from the roof.
The video posted by @\_\_\_\_\_\_\_reece reads the caption: "@Tesco I think one of your new stores has an issue." The video was viewed over 180,000 times an hour after it was first posted, with many taking to the social media platform to mock the arena which will host Everton games from the start of the 2025-26 season. However, heavy downpours were expected in the area, as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain in Liverpool on December 5 for between 2-6pm.
A similar flood happened in the ground in October but fans were assured that the stadium has been built to withstand floods for up to 100 years. Everton also made clear that the internal drainage in the stadium was yet to be completed. The 52,888-capacity arena is situated on the banks of the River Mersey and is expected to have cost more than £800m to build. The Toffees had kept the option to move in during the 2024-25 campaign open, but that will now be the final full season at Goodison Park instead. The decision not to move mid-season was driven by commercial and logistical reasons, and supporter feedback.
Everton added there will be a series of events to mark their departure from Goodison Park, their home since 1892, throughout the 2024-25 season. The official Everton Stadium website reads: "The result is a football-first sporting arena that will be the envy of the world. Atmospheric. Inspirational...a home befitting a football club with rich traditions, a passionate fanbase and an ambitious future. Everton and the city of Liverpool have a bright, exciting future together."
