What Nuno Espirito Santo has managed to do in 21 less games than Steve Cooper at Nottingham…

Nottingham Forest might have lost to Manchester City but the progress that the club is making is there for all to see.

Ahead of Thursday’s games in the Premier League, Forest are sat in sixth place in the table and nobody anticipated that at this stage.

Nuno Espirito Santo has kicked Forest onto another level and ultimately there has been a clear sign of some progress from last season.

People love to compare how Espirito Santo compares to Steve Cooper and the comparisons don’t seem to make too much sense.

Pundits have started to give the Forest head coach the credit he deserves, with Jamie O’Hara praising Espirito Santo earlier this season.

Forest face Manchester United at the weekend and after beating Ipswich Town last weekend, some intriguing statistics came to light.

Nuno Espirito Santo blows Steve Cooper out of the water

This statistic is pretty mind-blowing and it’s hard to believe that it’s true.

Forest beat Ipswich 1-0 on Saturday as the Reds made it 12 wins under Espirito Santo’s management.

MORE FOREST STORIES

It means that he’s now won as many games as Cooper did in the Premier League at Forest only it’s taken him 21 games less to get to that figure.

Espirito Santo has got to the dozen in under a year in charge of Forest, whilst Cooper had a full season and a half to get to that number.

Although it might not seem like it right now with three defeats in four games but this statistic does highlight the progress that Forest have made over the last year.

Cooper might hold Forest regrets

A lot of Espirito Santo’s wins have come when the shackles have simply come off and teams have been despatched in similar echelons of the division.

However, some wins have been very impressive. Manchester United were beaten at home last season, whilst Forest have this season won three games away from the City Ground.

This stat doesn’t paint Cooper in a particularly good light and the end of his time at Forest left the former boss a broken man and devoid of ideas.

But, he did have a much weaker squad in his time in the Premier League.

Espirito Santo isn’t done just yet though and the challenge for him this season is to try and truly establish Forest as a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.
