Report: David Beckham now wants to sign 'world-class' Man City star he admitted he'd love to…

Manchester City fans could well see a very different squad for the start of next season.

It has been clear in 2024/25 that the squad is in need of a rebuild, with several players now over the age of 30 and past their primes.

One such player is Kevin De Bruyne, whose contract is expiring next summer.

Speculation has been rife about the Belgian maestro recently due to his lack of starts for City. Last night though, he finally returned to the side against Nottingham Forest, and inspired his team to a 3-0 victory.

But the feeling for many is that De Bruyne will be moving on at the end of his contract – and a new claim has been made about the playmaker tonight, suggesting he could link up with some huge names from next season.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Kevin De Bruyne could now make a move to Inter Miami.

Previously, De Bruyne has been linked with San Diego FC, with the MLS a genuine option for him. It was claimed the club were optimistic of signing him.

But Inter Miami – who have the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba – are now showing interest, with David Beckham earmarking the City maestro as his number one target.

They are said to be growing increasingly confident of signing De Bruyne, and if the player hasn’t agreed an extension with City by the end of the year then they will make a move.

It’s thought life in the US greatly appeals to De Bruyne, and Beckham knows what a huge coup it would be for both Inter Miami and the MLS.

Beckham has previously admitted De Bruyne is a player he’d love to play like, so it’s little wonder he now wants to sign him, especially with his contract soon expiring.

It was also reported today (Telegraph) that City could offer De Bruyne a role at one of their sister clubs in the CFG.

De Bruyne decision could be months away yet

One gets the feeling that we won’t know a decision on De Bruyne’s future for some time yet.

We saw last night just how influential he can still be, and it may well be that De Bruyne is keen to see how he gets on for the rest of the season, before deciding what he’ll do.

We know he’s obviously had his injury problems over the last couple of years.

Kevin De Bruyne for Man City

Appearances – 394

Goals – 104

Assists – 171

Trophies won – 18

But he is obviously still so good. Gary Neville branded De Bruyne world-class last year and that remains the case. It might be a case of seeing how he gets on in the coming months, and only extending if he doesn’t pick up another injury between now and the end of the season.

City fans would no doubt love to see another season of De Bruyne, even though a decline could soon be coming.

Given De Bruyne’s incredibly high standards, he would likely still be very useful for City even in his mid-thirties.
