Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has sent a six-word message to Ashley Young after scoring for Everton against Wolves on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old netted the opening goal of the night at Goodison on 4 December before Orel Mangala and two Craig Dawson own goals resulted in a 4-0 win.

The former England international’s free kick strike was his 50th in the Premier League which he reacted to on Instagram after the game.

He said: “Great Team Performance. Nice to make it 50 Premier League goals (not out!) and create more history.”

Former Villa teammate McGinn replied: “Celebrating your age good to see.”

The Scotland international has been an everpresent at Villa Park since signing from Hibernian in 2018 and featured alongside Young during his second spell with the Villans.

As a result, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the 30-year-old has made a joke at the Toffees star’s expense after his strike against Wolves.

This goal represented his 50th in the league as he also became Everton’s oldest-ever goalscorer, a memorable night for many reasons.

The strike to secure these landmarks was superb as he curled a free kick around the wall to leave Jose Sa with no chance of keeping it out.

There were some questions over the positioning of the away side’s wall but that won’t bother Sean Dyche or Young at all, they will just be happy with the end result.

It is positive to see an older head in the dressing room at Goodison having a positive impact which will be a massive plus as the season goes on and the Toffees look to secure Premier League safety.
