The latest transfer news and rumours from Arsenal and Chelsea with the January window less than a month away
Arsenal and Chelsea both enjoyed wins during the midweek Premier League action as they cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to seven points. The Reds drew 3-3 at Newcastle United after conceding a late equaliser at St James’ Park.
The Gunners and the Blues were both able to take advantage of those dropped points as they defeated Manchester United and Southampton, respectively. There is still a significant gap for both clubs to make up but with 24 games of the season remaining, there is plenty of time for both London clubs to keep the pressure on Arne Slot’s side.
Liverpool face Merseyside rivals Everton on Saturday at 12.30pm while Arsenal and Chelsea are both in action on Sunday. The Gunners face Fulham at Craven Cottage while Chelsea make the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As the Premier League season enters the busy festive period, clubs are preparing their transfer plans for when the window opens next month.
Arsenal ready to sell three players
Arsenal have reportedly told three of their fringe players that they are free to find new clubs over the coming transfer windows. Fabio Vieira, Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos all left the Emirates Stadium on loan during the summer and according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal will listen to offers for all three players.
Vieira and Tavares are more likely to leave in the summer once their respective loans with FC Porto and Lazio come to an end. Vieira has started just five games in all competitions for the Porto and does not appear to have a future at Arsenal. The Gunners spent £34m on the player but he made just 49 appearances, scoring three goals. Meanwhile, Lazio do have an obligation to buy Tavares if certain clauses of the loan agreement are met.
Marquinhos could leave permanently next month as he prepares to finish his loan spell with Fluminense. He has made just six appearances since joining Arsenal but does have two years remaining on his contract.

Chelsea ‘chase’ Borussia Dortmund man
Chelsea are one of three Premier League clubs said to be in the race for Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha. According to Bild in Germany, Manchester United and Newcastle United are also wanting to sign the 24-year-old.
The central midfielder left Manchester City on a free transfer to join VfL Wolfsburg in 2021 and then joined Dortmund in 2023. He has played in all 12 of Dortmund’s Bundesliga games so far and has also appeared in all five Champions League outings - with the German club winning four of their five games in the competition. The Blues have plenty of options in the centre of midfield with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall at Enzo Maresca’s disposal. Whether Chelsea would look to move one of these players on before bolstering their squad remains to be seen.
